![]() ![]() The scenes of extreme violence were simply too many to record, and each one had a very, very dark and unsettling tone, somewhat odd for a genre that never seems to quite have a grip on reality. This is only one of many truly unsettling violent segments. ![]() One such scene found an infected man slashing his wife, eventually forcing his thumbs into her eye sockets, which in turn killed her. The violence was sickening in its brutality. While the other films had a clear break with reality, “28 Weeks Later” did not. I have reviewed more than one truly disgusting film, but this was by far the most unsettling. It is difficult to explain exactly how horribly disgusting this film actually is. In terms of content, the most obvious concern of this film will be the violence, and I suggest that any readers easily sickened skip to the next paragraph. The American Army has arrived to help with the relief efforts, and all seems to be going well… that is, until the virus resurfaces. This installment takes place 28 weeks after the first occurrence of infection, just as society is beginning to return to normal, all the infected are dead from starvation, and refugees are slowly but surely arriving in Britain. For those unfamiliar with the previous film, “ 28 Days Later” put a spin on the zombie genre in which a group of infected humans spread their highly contagious virus to other humans causing them to have uncontrollable, indefinite fits of rage in which they kill all human beings. With so much zombie material, I don’t know if that could help or hinder the proposed 28 Months Later from being made, but I don’t know I’m dying to see it.“28 Weeks Later” is the follow-up to the extremely popular independent film “ 28 Days Later”. I kind of credit the original film as bringing about the new zombie renaissance which includes The Walking Dead TV series (the comic started about a year after 28 Days Later). There are still some good parts and the movie does keep moving but you’ll find better horror films and zombie films (including the original film). Due to the editing, I also wasn’t always sure what was going on in this film (like the irritating tunnel scene).Ģ8 Weeks Later feels more like a money grab that a fully developed film. Here, the movie seemed more standard fare. The handheld style of shooting and strange frame rate gave it a really kinetic feel. 28 Days Later was low budget but did the most it could with what it was given…and it looked awesome. The movie also doesn’t visually have what 28 Days Later had. Both child actors Imogene Poots and Mackintosh Muggleton are decent since they are forced to largely carry the movie at points and both Idris Elba and Harold Perrineau could have been used better. Robert Carlyle was kind of marketed as the star but becoming zombie-fied after very little screen time, the lead really falls on both Rose Byrne and Jeremy Renner. It is too bad that the film becomes a run & gun type story because it has a good cast who is wasted. The movie was met with average to mostly positive reviews. A tie-in graphic novel called 28 Days Later: The Aftermath was published by Fox Atomic Comics and covers the period of time between the first movie and this film. A follow-up to the much smaller 2002 28 Days Later, the movie was produced by the original film’s creators Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. ![]() Don is infected when he encounters his wife and now the horror is beginning again…and government orders are that no one is to be left alive.ĭirected by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, 28 Weeks Later is a zombie horror movie. When Don’s wife is revealed to be alive, Scarlet (Rose Byrne) finds she has an unusual genetic protection against the virus but remains a carrier. Having left his wife (Catherine McCormack) for dead, Don (Robert Carlyle) now finds himself in charge of one of the primary living quarters in London and is reunited with his children Andy (Mackintosh Muggleton) and Tammy (Imogen Poots). military is aiding the in repopulation efforts in London. The quarantine of Great Britain is over, and the U.S. Begbie wouldn’t run from the zombies…he’s punch them in the face!!! ![]()
